IX.              Rule of Competition

a)        The latest competition rules approved by the Chinese Athletics Association, the World Athletics Road Running Event Rules, the "Compilation of Road Running Management Documents of the Chinese Athletics Association" (2024 edition) and the competition rules of this event are adopted.

b)        Start Waves: The race will start in separate waves. Further instructions will be given according to applications.

c)        Start Corrals:

          i.     Participants are responsible for arriving at the start corrals assigned to them.

        ii.     The marathon event will be divided into different zones based on the personal best marathon results of the athletes in the "A1 Category" events certified by the China Athletics Association in the past two years; the sponsor quota will be allocated to the last zone.

d)        Roll call

i.          General runners must arrive the designated corral 60 minutes prior to the race.

ii.        Later corral runners are NOT allowed to move to a faster corral. The organizing committee will set up the roll-call mat in front of each corral. Runners MUST pass the roll-call mat of his/her corral and then timing mat of starting point. Failing to do so may result in disqualification.

iii.      The competition allows disabled athletes who meet the competition requirements to participate. In order to ensure the safety of the wheelchair athletes themselves and other competitors, wheelchair athletes will gather at the last zone, otherwise they will be disqualified from the competition.

e)        Closing time

In the interest of safety, and to allow streets to reopen as scheduled, race courses will remain open to all participants, per the posted course closing time on the individual race page. Participants who are not able to complete the course prior to closing time should move to the sidewalksboard the sweep bus or take public transportation to the finish area, but may not cross the finish line. Closing time is subject to the gun time. See the following chart for details:

 Remark: The organizing committee has the right to interrupt the event for any emergency. Runners MUST follow the instruction of the official personnel.

 

f)         Timing

i.          Runners’ official (net) finish time is recorded by the timing system from when he/she crosses the starting line to when he/she crosses the finish line.

ii.        The official participant bib, which displays the race number, must be always fully visible and worn on the front of your torso on your outermost garment. To ensure an accurate time, do not fold, wrinkle, damage or remove the bib. Participants who run the race without their bib properly attached and displayed may not have their finish time recorded and may not be listed in the results.

iii.      Participants with missing or irregular split times at official timing checkpoints which are set up at start and finish line, every 5 km, the 21.0975km, and turning points will be reviewed and may be disqualified.

 g)        Bag Check

i.          The 2025 Chongqing Marathon will allow runners to check a bag of their belongings at the start of the race before 7:00 and retrieve it before 14:30 on race day. After that time, runners can collect their bags from the designated location within 5 working days after the race. Any unclaimed bags will be disposed of by the organizing committee. The items listed below are prohibited from being checked in the bag, and the bag’s owner will take full responsibility for any damage, loss, or accidents.

i)         Medical Aid

i.          Medical aid stations are located at the start, every 2.5km starting at kilometer 5 and the finish.

ii.        The medical team is equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in ambulances along the course.

iii.      If the runners experience any feelings or symptoms that seem very different than you expect, seek the attention of our medical staff and volunteers at the start, along the course, or at the finish.

iv.      The runners MUST stop from the race if the medical staffs evaluate them. All the consequences and responsibilities arising from insisting on participating will be borne by the runner himself/herself.

j)         Toilets, cooling facilities and environmental protection

i.               Toilets are located at the start, 3km and every 2.5km starting at kilometer 5 and the finish.

ii.             Cooling facilities set up along the race and at the finish area.

iii.           Runners are NOT allowed to urinate in public and MUST throw the garbage into the trash cans or designated place.

k)        Participants (including retired athletes) must strictly abide by the World Anti-Doping Code and the Anti-Doping Rules issued by the State Sports General Administration to participate in the competition. This competition will conduct doping tests on participants in accordance with the relevant provisions of the World Athletics Federation Label Road Running Event Rules, the China Athletics Association Road Running Event Management Measures and the China Athletics Association Road Running Event Anti-Doping Management Measures.

l)         Participants who finish the race within the cut-off time, please log in to the official website or Wechat after the race to check your results, download or print your certificate.

m)     For other specific requirements and arrangements for the competition, please refer to the “Official Manual “.

X.              Registration

a)        Age Requirement

                        i.              All marathon contestants shall be at least 20 years old (born before Dec 31, 2005)

                      ii.              Minors under the age of 16 must sign the Statement of Contestant by their guardian or legal representative to register for the competition, and minors under the age of 13 must be accompanied by the guardian.

b)        Competition Experience

Marathon runners must have completed a marathon or half marathon event certified by the China Athletics Association between January 1, 2022 (inclusive) and October 31, 2024 (inclusive) (virtual marathon results are invalid).

c)        Physical requirement

Marathon is not only a high-intensity and long-distance competitive sport but also a high-risk event. It has stringent requirements for the physical condition of the participants. Contestants should be healthy and have a foundation in long-term running exercise. Participants can choose between the marathon or the mini run based on their physical condition and ability.

Anyone who has any of the following diseases is prohibited to participate in the race:

1. Congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease.

2. Hypertension and cerebrovascular disease.

3. Myocarditis and other heart diseases.

4. Coronary artery disease and server irregular heartbeat.

5. Diabetes.

6. Having cold symptoms 30 days prior to the race.

7. Drinking lots of hard alcohol or lack of sleep the night before the race.

8. Pregnant.

9. Other diseases not suitable for sports.

d)        How to register

1. Mass athletes can register through the official website or wechat of the event.

2. Elite athletes are invited by the organizing committee in accordance with the relevant regulations of  World Athletics and Chinese Athletics Association; international elite athletes and athletes in the 2024 doping registration and inspection database of  China Anti-Doping Agency are not allowed to register as mass athletes.

e)        Other Requirement

The organizing committee will make dynamic adjustments to the event based on competition organization needs (including but not limited to event time, scale, registration requirements, participation requirements, etc)

XI.              Award

a)        Ranking Prize

2.        Chinese athletes will receive the equivalent value of RMB for their prizes, which will be converted at the mid-rate of the foreign exchange rate of RMB on the day of the race.

c)        Requirements of Award Receiving

                        i.              The results of all winning athletes will be announced on the official website of the event for 10 days and will be awarded after it is confirmed that there are no doping issues; if there are those who fail the doping test, their ranking and prize money will be cancelled and subsequent rankings will not be filled.

                      ii.              Ranking prize and record-breaking prize can be accumulated for reward.

                    iii.              All prize money is subject to the Individual Income Tax Law of the People's Republic of China. The Organizing Committee shall pay 20% individual income tax on the prize money. The top eight runners in the men's and women's marathon events must pay 2% of their prize money as the contribution of international elite athletes to the Anti-Doping Testing Fund, which will be deducted directly from the prize money by the Organizing Committee and paid to the World Athletics.

XII.              Penalties

The organizing committee will conduct video surveillance of the entire race (including the start and finish points). If any of the following problems occur during the race, the staff and referees have the right to terminate the race, confiscate the bib number of the offending participant on the spot, and disqualify the participant from the race. After the race, the organizing committee will, depending on the severity of the violation, impose penalties such as cancellation of the Chongqing Marathon results, 1-3 years of ban or lifetime ban on the offender, and report to the CAA for additional penalties..

                        i.              Using fraudulent age information for application.

                      ii.              Concealing personal physical disease.

                    iii.              Participating in the competition under a false name, forging the competition number or certificate, or engaging in fraud;

                    iv.              Failure to wear required cloth and bib number.

                      v.              Failure to pass the roll-call mat of his/her corral and then timing mat of starting point.

                    vi.              Violating the rules at the start.

                  vii.              Entering the track in any vehicle in violation of the regulations.

                viii.              Taking a shortcut or using a means of transport other than running.

                    ix.              Unsportsmanlike manner such as squeeze, push, bump, trip and so on.

                      x.              Crossing the finishing line without completing the race or repeatedly crossing the finishing line to collect finisher’s medals and other goods.

                    xi.              Those who do not complete the race but secretly pass the finish line to collect souvenirs

                  xii.              Refusing to follow the instructions of an event official.

                xiii.              Abuse, fight and trouble during the event.

                xiv.              In order to obtain improper benefits, the game is not active and passive

                  xv.              Making inappropriate remarks about sports events, causing adverse effects

                xvi.              Other acts that violate the spirit of sports and morals and cause adverse effects

              xvii.              Other violations not specified in these Rules of Competition based on all relevant facts and circumstances.

XIII.              Insurance

a)        The organizing committee of this competition will purchase organizer liability insurance for all contestants and staff. The insurance policy is based on the registration information. Incorrect registration information will result in failure to obtain insurance.

b)        Violators who run for others, run without permission, or use bibs not for this event will not be able to obtain insurance purchased by the organizing committee and will be punished accordingly.

c)        The organizing committee strongly recommends that all contestants go to medical institutions for health examinations and purchase personal accident insurance covering marathon events.

d)        If the participant is unwell and suffers from any disease or symptom (including but not limited to heatstroke, fainting, etc.) during the period of participation due to his/her own reasons (including but not limited to chronic disease, invisible disease, insufficient physical endurance, etc.) and if the insurance company determines that it does not fall within the scope of the claim, then all the legal responsibilities and consequences arising from this (including but not limited to medical treatment costs, loss of lost time, disability compensation or compensation, death compensation, etc.) shall be borne by the participant himself/herself, and the organizing committee has nothing to do with it. Participants are advised to assess their own health conditions carefully before registering and participating in the race.

e)        The Organizing Committee will provide free first aid medical treatment during the race, which is limited to what can be done on site. The Organizing Committee may provide the necessary information to assist the participant in claiming compensation for expenses incurred in the course of treatment at the hospital, which are within the scope of the claim, after the participant has settled the bill with the hospital, and then apply for compensation from the insurance company or negotiate with the insurance company on his/her own.
