2027 Chongqing Marathon Registration Guidelines

1. Event Information

1.1 Race Date: Sunday, 10 January 2027; Start Time: 8:00 a.m.

1.2 Race Location: Nanbin Road and Babin Road, Chongqing

2. Event Category and Field Size

Marathon (42.195 km): 26,000 participants

3. Entry Requirements

3.1 Age Requirement

Participants must be at least 20 years old as of 1 January 2027..

3.2 Qualification Requirements

Participants must have completed either one Marathon race or two Half Marathon races during the period from 14 September 2024 (inclusive) to 13 September 2026 (inclusive) in events certified by the Chinese Athletics Association. Results from virtual marathon events shall not be accepted.

3.3 Medical and Physical Health Requirements

1. Road running events are high-intensity, long-distance and high-risk competitive activities that place high demands on participants’ physical condition.. Participants shall be in good health and have a foundation of long-term running exercise.

2. The Organising Committee recommends that all participants undergo a medical examination at a Grade II-A hospital or higher within one month before the race. The examination is recommended to include blood pressure measurement; a routine electrocardiogram (ECG); 24-hour ambulatory ECG monitoring or exercise stress testing; and cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, cardiopulmonary, liver and kidney function examinations. If blood pressure is excessively high or significant abnormalities are found in the ECG (such as severe bradycardia), participants are advised to undergo further examinations, such as cardiac ultrasound, according to medical advice. An ECG and cardiac ultrasound cannot replace each other. Participants should evaluate their own physical condition based on medical examination results and register only after confirming that they are physically capable of participating in long-distance running.

3. Participants with any of the following conditions are not suitable for the race. If participants conceal their health conditions and participate in the race, they shall bear all resulting consequences and responsibilities:

1) Congenital heart disease or rheumatic heart disease;

2) Hypertension or cerebrovascular disease;

3) Myocarditis or other heart diseases;

4) Coronary artery disease or severe arrhythmia;

5) Diabetes with excessively high or low blood glucose levels;

6) Participants who have had a cold within two weeks before the race, or who have experienced fever, dry cough, fatigue, reduced sense of smell or taste, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, conjunctivitis, muscle pain or diarrhea;

7) Participants who consumed excessive alcohol or suffered from severe sleep deprivation on the night before the race;

8) Pregnant participants;

9) Participants with any other medical condition that makes exercise unsuitable.

4. Registration Information

4.1 Registration Schedule

Pre-registration: 2 September 2026 to 13 September 2026

Announcement of Qualification Results: 23 September 2026

4.2 Registration Method: Participants may register through the Chongqing Marathon official website (www.cqmarathon.com), the Chongqing Marathon official WeChat account, or the Chongqing Chongma Sports official WeChat account.

4.4 Entry Quota Allocation

4.4.1 Public Lottery: 12,500 entries

4.4.2 Time-Qualifying: 10,000 entries

(1) A total of 10,000 qualifying entries will be available.

(2) Participants whose results meet the “2027 Chongqing Marathon Age Group Qualification Standards” will enter the qualification ranking process for their corresponding age group. The final qualifying entry allocation shall be determined in accordance with Paragraph (3) below. Age groups shall be determined using the following calculation: Age = 2027 − Year of Birth.

(3) If the total number of qualified participants exceeds 10,000, the number of qualifying entries allocated to each age group shall be determined according to the following formula:


   Number of Qualifying Entries for an Age Group = 10,000 × (Number of Qualified Participants in that Age Group ÷ Total Number of Qualified Participants)

Participants within each age group will be ranked according to their Net Time, from fastest to slowest. Participants with higher rankings will receive qualifying entry priority until the quota for that age group is filled.

(4) Qualifying results shall be based on participants’ personal best Marathon or Half Marathon Net Time results from events available for verification on the China Marathon website and held from 14 September 2024 (inclusive) to 13 September 2026 (inclusive).

4.4.3 Chongqing Marathon Series Guaranteed Entry: 1,000 entries

The top 500 male participants and top 500 female participants from the 2026 Chongqing (Changjiahui) Half Marathon must meet the 2027 Chongqing Marathon entry requirements and must register through the official website and complete payment from 13 November 2026 to 20 November 2026. Participants who fail to complete registration within the specified period will be deemed to have waived their guaranteed entry qualification.

4.4.4 Sponsor and Media Partners: 2,500 entries.

Participants entering through sponsors or media partners must still meet all eligibility and registration requirements specified in these Registration Guidelines. Entries may not be transferred or resold.

4.5 Registration Procedure

4.5.1 General Participants

Log in to the official website or official WeChat account → Select Online Registration → Select the Event Category → Read and agree to the Participant Declaration, Anti-Doping Commitment and Personal Information Protection Notice → Complete the Questionnaire → Fill in Personal Information → Pay the Entry Fee → Enter the Lottery.

4.5.2 Elite Athletes

Elite athletes shall be invited by the Organising Committee and shall not participate through the general participant registration process. Domestic elite athletes shall be determined according to the list of domestic elite athletes published on the China Marathon website. (https://www.runchina.org.cn/#/public/domestic-elite/list). Elite athletes’ participation arrangements shall be handled by the Organising Committee. Relevant applications shall be submitted to the Organising Committee at cd@cqmarathon.com.

4.5.3 Participants with Disabilities

Registration and participation arrangements for participants with disabilities shall be implemented in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Notice on Participation of Athletes with Disabilities in National Marathon and Related Events published on the official website of the Chinese Athletics Association:

(1) This event will not establish a competitive wheelchair category. Competitive wheelchair athletes are not permitted to participate in this event.

(2) Participants with disabilities (including wheelchair participants) must meet the entry requirements and pay the entry fee according to the registration requirements. Participants with visual impairments must upload proof of disability during registration and submit relevant information of one guide runner.

(3) Before the start, participants with visual impairments, hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities or upper-limb disabilities shall assemble and complete check-in together with general participants in their assigned starting corrals. Wheelchair participants must complete check-in and start from the designated wheelchair assembly area.

(4) During the race, to ensure the safety of all participants, participants with visual impairments must be accompanied by a guide runner throughout the entire race. Other participants with disabilities and wheelchair participants are also encouraged to participate with guide runners. Guide runners must be selected from officially registered participants who have obtained entry places through this event.

4.6 Eligibility Review

The Organising Committee will review applicants’ identity information, qualifying results and other relevant entry qualifications, and will cross-check such information against applicable suspension and disciplinary lists. Applicants who fail to meet the entry requirements or provide false information will have their registration or entry qualification cancelled.

4.7 Participation Requirements

Participants shall wear appropriate sportswear and must not use clothing, equipment, symbols or similar means to display political, religious, racially discriminatory or other messages that violate applicable laws and regulations.

5. Race Pack Collection

Detailed arrangements for race pack collection shall be subject to the Pre-Race Pack Collection Instructions issued before the event.

6. Important Information

6.1 Applicants must provide true and accurate registration information. The Organising Committee will verify the authenticity of the information provided. Any applicant found to have provided false information will have their registration qualification cancelled.

6.2 Applicants should check their registration results through the Chongqing Marathon official website or official WeChat accounts within the periods specified in these Registration Guidelines. Entry fees paid by unsuccessful lottery applicants will be refunded to the original payment account within 5 working days after the announcement of entry results. The event official website and official WeChat accounts are the official channels for checking registration status. Notifications by SMS, WeChat customer service or email are provided only as supplementary reminders. Failure to receive a notification due to a telecommunications service provider, mobile phone settings, network problems, an incorrectly entered phone number or any similar reason will not affect the application of the registration rules.

6.3 Once the Organising Committee has confirmed a participant’s entry qualification, the entry fee will not be refunded if the participant is unable to participate for personal reasons.

6.4 Participants who have purchased event souvenirs and wish to cancel their orders may submit a cancellation request by 29 September 2026.. Cancellation requests submitted after this deadline will not be accepted. The Organising Committee will dispatch the items by 31 October 2026 to the residential address provided during registration.

6.5 By registering for the event, participants consent to the reasonable use by the Organising Committee and its authorised media and sponsors of their likenesses, photographs and audio and video materials created during event activities, for purposes related to event organisation, publicity and promotion. The processing of other personal information shall be governed by the Personal Information Protection Notice.

6.6 If the event is postponed or cancelled due to force majeure or other reasons, the Organising Committee will separately announce follow-up arrangements concerning entry qualifications, entry fees and related matters according to the actual circumstances. Any cancellation, rebooking or similar costs arising from transportation, accommodation or other arrangements made independently by participants shall be handled by the participants in accordance with the rules of the relevant service providers.

6.7 Registration and entry qualifications are for the registered participant’s personal use only and may not be transferred, resold or otherwise made available for use by another person.

7. Assumption of Risk

7.1 As a road running competition, this event involves inherent risks. Before registering, applicants must fully understand the risks of marathon running and must read, acknowledge and sign the Participant Declaration and the relevant safety and risk disclosures.

7.2 Under Article 1176 of the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China, a person who voluntarily participates in a cultural or sports activity involving inherent risk may not require another participant to bear tort liability for harm caused by that participant, unless the harm was caused intentionally or through gross negligence.

7.3 The Organising Committee will provide risk disclosures and safety guidance through the Registration Guidelines, Participant Declaration, Official Race Manual and other materials. Applicants should register voluntarily only after fully understanding the relevant risks.
